What types of Indian plug are there?

India uses the old UK BS 546 5 Amp three pin round pin plug, which is now rated at 6 Amps in India. The larger 16 Amp South African type is sometimes used for large equipment.

What approvals does an Indian plug or powercord have?

Plugs for India are manufactured to BS 546 and/or Indian Standards IS 1293.

Where is the Indian plug used?

The Indian type plug is used mainly in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
